All About Women Festival A Celebration of Womanhood

All About Women Festival A Celebration of Womanhood

Posted 2014-03-20 by S.Cfollow

Ever heard of the All About Women Festival? After its inaugural success last year, this festival comes back on Sunday 30 March at the Sydney Opera House. At the menu: a celebration of what really matters to women.

This year, All About Women is inviting eighteen speakers from Australia and all around the world. They will tell us their story and debate various topics ranging from sexual desire, to parenting and fashion.

The festival is not focusing on one single idea. Instead, the speakers will discuss a whole range of themes related to womanhood. Not the subjects that society wants women to be interested in, but questions that actually matter to women because it is part of their everyday lives.

There will be debates on fashion as destructive force, sex and female desire, and women in the media, but also film screenings and strategies for saying "no".

Unfortunately, some debates take place at the same time so you will not be able to attend them all. If you can't make up your mind, the Sydney Opera House has made a "must see" selection for you:

  • All Joy & No Fun, by Jennifer Senior;
  • Love in the Time of Comics, by Alison Bechdel;
  • Egypt, the Arab World and the War on Women, by Mona Eltahawy;
  • To Die For: Fashion Wearing out the World? by Lucy Siegle;
  • Pictures of You: Women in the Media & Pop Culture (Panel);
  • What Women Want, by Daniel Bergner (the only male speaker).
