With Easter just around the corner, I'd like to take this opportunity to share some information about the dairy industry. Easter isn’t just about chicken eggs, but chocolate eggs too. Sadly the dairy industry is just as horrid as the egg industry (please see my other article for information on the egg industry). Cows are forcibly impregnated (to continue the milk supply), then their calves are taken away at birth, as a by-product. Males are discarded, and become veal, while females are kept as milking cows.
The truth is: Milk doesn't come from happy cows who frolic in green meadows.
Perhaps the following video can explain everything better than I possibly can. This video may be shocking to some, but please watch it. It's important to know where dairy comes from.
This is a non-violent/graphic video.
"The treatment of bobby calves has been a long-held secret of the dairy industry. For the sake of milk products, the Australian dairy industry discards some 700,000 unwanted week-old calves as 'waste products' every year. You can help these vulnerable animals at Animals Australia "
