Being a homeowner is an extremely difficult task. You’re responsible for the entire property and everything in it. If something breaks or needs repair, you’re the one who must notice it and take care of it. However, the most difficult part of being a homeowner, is to keep everything well organized and in good shape. We usually own so many shoes, clothes and trinkets, that it’s difficult to keep them from exploding all over the place. I’m certain that most of you can relate to a situation, where you’re looking for your earrings, but you can’t find the second one, because the drawer where you keep them is a complete mess. The following easy DIY tips will help you avoid these unpleasant situations and keep all your possessions organized.

PVC shoe rack. The excess of shoes lying around near the front door is a very common issue for many new homeowners. No matter how hard you try to keep them in line, they always seem to be all over the place. You probably even have a shoe cabinet, but it’s already filled and useless. It’s not very pleasant, because this is the first thing your guests see when they come over. With this simple shoe rack made from PVC pipes you will take care of the clutter, and you will get an interesting addition to your home décor. All you need to do is get a PVC pipe and cut it to pieces with the needed length. Then use sand paper to take care of the rough edges. If you want, you can even paint the pieces in some interesting colours. Then use some glue to arrange the shape and attach the pipe pieces to each other. Your shoe problem is solved!

Shoe box storage. Shoe boxes are neat and for free, but many people still underestimate their organizing and storage abilities. Which is a bit sad, because they can be used all over the house. For instance, if you love spices and you have a lot of them in your kitchen, you can use a shoe box to store them all together. They are also perfect drawer dividers; you can use them in your underwear drawer to separate the bras from panties and socks, and so on. Shoe boxes are also perfect for other small items, like nail polishes or lipsticks, if you have many of those. Other items, which often wander around and can be kept in shoe boxes, are cables. We definitely have a lot of those in our homes. And when it comes to things which wander around, shoe boxes are also perfect for organizing a child’s room. Just think about it, no more Legos to step on, wouldn’t that be perfect?

Old drawer storage. Many new homes come with old cabinets or some other pieces of furniture, which are considered trash for most people. However, what most people don’t realize, is that the drawers from these cabinets can be given a second chance to serve as hidden storage. All you need to do is go to the nearest hardware store, get some wheels and install them underneath the drawer on each corner. Then the drawers can be placed under the bed, and you can store all kinds things in them, from towels to clothes and bed linen. If the drawer is old and worn out, you can rejuvenate it with some sanding and paint. Such storage is also perfect for your kid’s room, all these toys need a place to be stored in, and drawers are perfect for the job.

Jars, cans and containers. We all buy things, which come in jars or cans, and most of us just throw them away once they are done with the goods they contain. However, if you need storage for small items, these jars and containers are perfect for you. Once you clean them, you can store all kinds of things in them, from pens to sewing materials, and much more. If you want them to look classier, all you need to do is paint them, or glue some nice patterned paper on them. With some imagination and creativity, you can turn all those dull containers into real masterpieces.

Easy jewelry storage. Most girls love jewelry – we love earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and all kinds of other trinkets. However, the bad side of having so many of them is that most of these things like to get lost or tangled into each other. There is an easy way to deal with that problem. You can make your own jewelry rack, using a corkboard or some old frame with a net attached to it. Get some pins, hooks and buttons, and attach them to the board/frame. They will be perfect for hanging necklaces and bracelets. The earrings can be pinned directly onto the board or net. This way you will have all your valuables well sorted and in one place.
