The tummy can be one of the most stubborn of areas to tone even when you are doing a multitude of fat-busting abdominal exercises to get in shape. Some people complain that despite eating healthy and having a good work-out regime, their tummy stills lacks definition and looks flabby. There are a few things you can do to fix this problem and the best tips are as follows:
Drink eight to ten glasses of water a day. Studies have shown that proper hydration helps you lose weight as it keeps you full for longer and as a result you tend to eat smaller portion sizes. Aim to drink a glass of water half an hour before every meal.
Reduce or completely eliminate sugar from your diet. This not only applies to table sugar but processed sugar hidden in ice cream, cookies and cakes. These sweet treats definitely taste great but processed sugar is the main culprit behind abdominal bloating and mid-section weight gain. Natural sugar found in fruit is a much healthier option and kind on your waistline.
Limit the use of salt in your food and you will immediately feel a difference in your body. Sodium in table salt and salty food attracts water so when you take in higher amounts of salt you retain more fluid in your body. This leaves you feeling bloated and sluggish because of the extra water weight. A good tip to minimize sodium in your diet is not to add salt during cooking and instead sprinkle just a pinch of coarse sea salt on your dish before eating.
A sure shot way to jump-start your metabolism is to increase your protein intake. Eat hard-boiled egg whites for breakfast as they will keep you full for a longer amount of time and prevent that dreaded afternoon crash. You burn more calories processing high-protein foods since they require more energy to digest and metabolize.
Eat an Apple a Day
It’s true when they say “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Apples help you lose weight as they are nature’s very own appetite suppressors. Apples also have pectin which lower cholesterol. Aim to eat at least 5 portions of fruits and veggies a day to get a tight stomach. Vegetables and fruit are good source of fiber and they help with all sorts of abdominal issues like bloating, constipation etc.
Incorporate these simple strategies into your life and get on the road to achieve your fitness and health goals.
