I couldn't avoid this shop window as I wandered past it in the heart of Melbourne. The idea of gym usually conjures up images of sweat, unclean carpets, equipment which feels like it's designed for torture and fit looking instructors. Not to mention the gym members who are older than me and so very fit. I've certainly had my days of being a member of a gym, only to each time that it's a serious waste of hard earned dollars.
It usually starts out with a genuine intention to use the facilities on a regular basis, to make the most of the opportunities the membership provides and a renewed commitment to fitness and health. Usually it's triggered by something pretty serious - a changing relationship, a health alert, a flippant comment or some other reminder of the importance of physical health.
So it's no wonder then that this shop front jumped out at me. The idea of running through the outdoors is much more appealing than an inside gym. The running part could be a worry though. Walking through the outdoors is pretty attractive to me and seems achievable but running is a bit frightening.
Of course the shop front is advertising very expensive running shoes. I can't imagine myself spending a lot of money on shoes and other accessories for sports. There's many more things I'd rather spend money on.
So if this scene could be my gym and I didn't have to spend a fortune I could be tempted to go for a bit of a jog. Who knows, I might even enjoy it?
