There is plenty of information advising women on what clothes to buy. In the end most women just find what works for them and their lifestyle. This is easier than being a slave to ever changing fashion and it lets you express yourself through what you wear. I have a few basic ‘stand by’ items in my wardrobe which mix and match and get worn most often.

I find I wear jeans, black leggings or trousers or if it is hot, black or navy three quarter length pants. From time to time I have thought it was time for a change but when I have bought other types of pants they don’t get worn much. The pants I have just ‘go’ with so many items in my wardrobe.

When it comes to skirts, again I find a black skirt goes with so many things. I have three black skirts. One is quite dressy and can be worn to more formal occasions. I have had it for yonks. The second one is more casual but still quite versatile. The third one gets the most wear as it can be worn with casual tops. When worn with a tunic it almost looks like a dress.


In addition I have a couple of patterned skirts. These get less wear because they only ‘go’ with a limited number of tops. I have a matching skirt and top which are very useful for occasions when I need something a bit dressy.

Although I like dresses I only have one. It is red and I usually wear it with a sleeveless vest or a scarf as it looks a bit plain on its own. I had a little black dress as we are told every woman needs one. I found it got little wear as a black skirt teamed with a black top works better for me.


Five years ago I bought a black vest with pockets that I wear frequently. It goes with most tops and dresses too and I can wear it in any season. When I need pockets but am wearing trousers lacking pockets I throw on my black vest. Because it gets so much use I thought it a good idea to purchase two more vests. However, I rarely wore them because the black one was so versatile. I ended up donating the others to an op shop.


I have numerous long sleeved and short sleeved tops which I wear to suit the weather. In addition I have a very useful thick red jacket to wear when it is chilly and a black vinyl jacket to keep me dry.

I do love clothes and enjoy buying something different for my wardrobe. Generally these items don’t get anywhere near as much use as my stand by items which mix and match and suit my lifestyle.
