You can feel so independent for quite a long time before it strikes. Going about your work and business taking care of yourself and not needing anyone else to help you. Or so you think. Then the day arrives when you need a minor medical procedure. The doctor comments that itís a simple procedure, will be over and done with quickly but you wonít be able to drive yourself home. You will need someone to collect you and take you home.
Suddenly you realize that you are not so independent after all. This simple and obvious advice hits you like a sledgehammer as you realize that you cannot survive on your own completely. At times like this you need to have people around you. You need someone to take you places and be with you to make sure you are okay. You are not infallible. No longer can you take pride in your independence and capacity to cope by yourself.
Just like you have made yourself available to others in the past now itís their turn to do the same for you. They donít even mind doing it. They know that this happens to us all sometimes. That everyone needs some help from time to time. No one can survive on their own forever. People are just not islands. They need each other.
