It was a very rainy afternoon as I found this lane way in Melbourne's inner northern suburbs. I had hoped for shelter but it provided none. The brightly colored art work grabbed me though and I stood for a moment to take the photo.
It's an interesting area with lots of little lane ways that open on to both the front and rear of houses and shops. You can roam around not knowing what you might find down each lane way or around each corner.
This art work represents the eclectic nature of the area. A mix of neat and tidy homes and shops and others that have seen much better days. This art work shows us the latest colors and designs while the lingering tags and faded art work sits alongside it.
You could think that by looking at the art work that there are many different artists who use the wall for their art work.Just like the suburb.Lots of people who live and work here. Some business people. Some homeless people. Some people living in the public housing flats nearby. Some trendy hipster type people live in this area too. It's one of those inner Melbourne suburbs undergoing quite rapid change and gentrification. Just like the art on this wall.
I make a mental note to come back this way again soon and see what happens next. Not just to the art work but to the lane way and its residents. To take note of who might be moving in, who might be staying, who might be going.
