Earrings were first worn about 7,000 years ago. At that time it was men who usually wore earrings. These days more women than men wear them. Earrings can be clip on ones or those designed for pierced ears. Some women have several holes pierced in their ears so they can wear more than one pair of earrings at a time. There are stud earrings, usually small and subtle. They may feature an expensive stone. Then there are dangly earrings, some of which are quite large. There is certainly plenty of choice when it comes to earrings and they can add something to an outfit.
If you have a baby who is at the stage of grabbing at everything he/she sees perhaps dangly earrings are not a sensible choice. The same can be said if you are employed in childcare and are working with babies. There are other jobs where such accessories may be a risk. Your employment may have a dress code which includes a statement about jewellery. These things need to be kept in mind when thinking about wearing earrings to work.

There are many types of earrings available and it is possible to get inexpensive ones. Perhaps you have a favourite animal. You may be able to find earrings featuring it. These days many things can be purchased online so you don’t have to trek all over the city searching for what you want. On the other hand it can be fun to search for something. There is also the advantage of being able to hold the earrings and see how weighty they are if you don’t like heavy ones.

Women who enjoy craft may like to make earrings. The findings can be purchased from some discount shops as well as from craft stores and online. Old earrings can be pulled apart and used in the assembly of new ones.
Ideas for making earrings can be found online or from books and magazines at the library. It can be fun to make your own and you could even give some away as presents.

Stud earrings can be stored in plastic boxes with dividers. These are available at craft stores and discount shops.

Other earrings can be stored hanging up to keep the pairs together and to make them easy to see. I am currently using a wall hanging for my earrings. At one time I had some hanging from the bottom of a woollen lamp shade

Earrings do not
have to match. Some sets are designed with two different earrings but on a theme. Sometimes women choose to wear just one earring.
