Mum collected pieces of Royal Albert for years from junk shops. I don't know how or why it happened but some of her sisters started doing it too. But way later on and I don't think they got theirs from junk shops.
Dad bought her a new meat plate on their 25th wedding anniversary. By that time the sisters were sending each other pieces they found or had extra of.
Because these things were pricey they weren't used very often.
Mum's lot were great hostesses. An ad on TV showed a lovely complete dinner set, high end, kind of pricey but gorgeous nonetheless and something you could use if you didn't want to use your best stuff. For want of a better word - from now on I'll call them fake.
Fast forward 20 years. A cousin invited me to tea.She had fake cups! How I savored my cuppa. Brought back nostalgic
memories for us both and we dined on that. We are probably more like our mothers than we realise.
I don't know what happened to Mum's fakes but I found my own at a garage sale for less than a dollar. They lived in a cabinet in the dining room for a wee while but now I use them often.
I so love a bargain... its a boost they evoke great memories.
