Add Some Bling To Your Scarf

Sometimes it is nice to add some bling to a scarf to dress it up or give it a personal touch. Sometimes a knot is too bulky and your scarf won't sit right. There are rings made specifically for scarves but instead of spending money you may already have something you can re-purpose to do the job.

A friend sent me a set of four gorgeous napkin rings featuring silver owls, each with different coloured 'stones'. I loved them because owls are my favourite bird. However, I didn't have any cloth napkins to use them with and would rarely use fabric serviettes if I did buy some.

It occurred to me they would make fantastic scarf rings, especially for bulky wool scarves which never look right when I tie a knot. I started wearing the napkin rings as scarf rings and was pleased with the effect. I got some lovely compliments from friends and also from strangers.

The different coloured 'stones' suit different scarves. I like the look of the black one against my red scarf.

Inspired by the success of using the napkin rings as scarf rings I started to look around at items I already owned with the idea of re-purposing them to dress up my scarves.

About four years ago I bought a silver owl bracelet. I have always loved the look of it but just found it too bulky and consequently didn't wear it. I bent it a bit and started to wear it with a couple of scarves. It is great to be using this lovely item at last.

When I bought a silver butterfly ring I thought I would wear it frequently. However, as it is expandable it tends to pinch the back of my finger. It just lay in my jewellery box until I started wearing it with a suitable scarf.

I did occasionally wear the owl ring, pictured below, on my finger. Having said that, it actually gets more use as a scarf ring as this winter I have found myself wearing a scarf almost every time I leave the house.

I have found a delicate silver ring with fake diamond and emerald look stones coordinates well with a green scarf I like to wear.

Now I am looking at things I already own but don't use much with the aim of finding new uses for them.

Very cool! Great article. I especially like your last sentence. You've doubled the usefulness of your accessories. Great tip xxx
Thank you for your comment, Mina. I like to have something new or different to wear or to decorate the house but I am trying to break the habit of buying too many things. Re-purposing an item I already own satisfies both these desires.
